Well we did it! We took the Polar Plunge to benefit Special Olympics of Illinois. We have been talking about doing this for several years now, but we always get too busy getting ready for our busy Spring season. This time we started planning well in advance, signed up, and started taking donations early on so that we would HAVE to do it. We talked about several different costume options, but ended up deciding that it would be funny if we took the plunge in our recognizable red pickup trucks. We spent a few nights making our scaled down red pickup trucks out of boxes – we think they turned out pretty good! We were hoping to get the craziest team costume award, but we weren’t able to pull that off as we had some tough competition. Even though we didn’t win the award, our pictures did end up in the Herald & Review, Decatur Magazine, and Thrive Magazine. One award we did receive was the “Honorary Plungers” award, which means that next year we have to take the plunge again so that we can give the award out to a worthy team. We want to thank all of our donors once again as they helped us raise over$1,600! The generosity of the donors helps provide the nearly 21,000 athletes with intellectual disabilities and more than 6,000 Young Athletes of ages 2 – 7 the chance to participate in year-round sports training and competition – all at no charge to the athletes or their families. We will see you again next year!
