We had a good showing yesterday for our “Winning Plant Combo” seminar – somewhere between 8 – 10 people. Below are some of the highlights of the seminar:
Color Combination
When potting plants, make sure that the color of the pots coordinate well with the color of the flowers you are using. Also, make sure the pots and flowers coordinate well with the color of the surroundings (house, patio, other plants, etc…).
Plant Habit Combinations
Every plant has a different tolerance for water and/or sun. We talked a lot about how to pick the proper plants that go well together to make sure you don’t put plants that like it wet with plants that like it dry. The same can be said for plants that like full sun vs plants that like full shade. The bottom line is to make sure that the plant habits coincide.
Potting Plants
We talked about how to properly pot a plant – make sure to have drainage in the bottom so that water drains through soil and doesn’t drown out the plant. Also, make sure to have adequate soil and fertilizer. Keep in mind that containerized plants can’t go find their own water like those planted directly in the ground, so you have to be diligent about watering them. However, make sure not to over water – ore plants are killed by over watering than under watering. As far as arranging the plants in a pot, place the taller plants in the center of a pot and use shorter plants towards the outside edges to give the pot good balance.
As always, come see us for help arranging a custom pot. We can plant them for you, or lead you in the right direction.
